Washington d.c.

We hit D.C. right in time for the cherry blossoms in early Spring of 2025!  It is a wonderful place to learn about the history of so many aspects of our nation.  We were only here for several days, which is certainly not enough time to see/ do everything, but it was adequate for getting a taste of our nation's capital.

District of Columbia, USA

SEE/ DO

  • Explore the National Mall (not a mall in the traditional sense - this is where the monuments are, such as the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial)

  • Museums (There are so many!  We explored the Holocaust, Air & Space, Natural History, and Bible Museums.)

  • Georgetown District (Nice houses, parks, Georgetown University, upscale shops, and eateries)

EAT

  • Rasika (Upscale Indian cuisine.  We enjoyed the Palak Chaat, Chicken Makhani, Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Burani, and Cardamom Ice Cream!)

  • The Red Hen (Farm-to-Table Italian.  We would re-order the whipped ricotta crostini, charred broccolini, spring pea spaghetti, creosote di gallo, mango sorbet, bread pudding, and hazelnut maple panna cotta!)

  • Call Your Mother Deli in Georgetown (Bagel sandwiches!)

  • Toastique (a healthy breakfast spot with smoothies and sweet/ savory gourmet toasts)

If you find yourself in Baltimore...

  • Ekiben (This was the best meal we had on the trip after flying into Baltimore - it is a trendy, hole-in-the-wall Japanese restaurant.  Try the neighborhood bird, tempura and/or ramen broccoli, and the garlic chili oil noodles!)

STAY

  • We stayed at an Airbnb in the Navy Yard District, which was incredibly close to the Washington Mall.

Tips

  • Many of the museums are free/ by donation - so you don't have to commit to seeing the entire thing if you are short on time!  This is great if you have a short time to kill before your next plan.  You can browse and see if you would like to come back.

  • The National Mall is large, so perhaps going by bike or on wheels of some sort would be a preferred method.

  • It may be advantageous to use public transit to avoid trying to park your own car.

  • If you want to do a White House Tour, you should plan this over 6 months in advance, as there is a process to be able to do this.
